What Is The Meaning Of Life?
By, Donna Daacke
Do you find yourself lately feeling like you’re in the movie Groundhog Day, where Bill Murray repeats the same day over and over again? This morning as I was experiencing just that after waking I found myself in a heady space with the big question of “What is the meaning of life?” Immediately I thought, that’s a vast and very subjective question before my first cup of coffee, so, instead, I shifted and thought, how am I bringing meaning into my life? Often we ask this question on a much larger scale seeking a bigger purpose to things, why am I here, and what’s my grand purpose in life? In doing so, we potentially lose the opportunity to more present within the smaller aspects of life.
I then became aware of the truth in the phrase, that “we were, we are, and we will be” Truth is that nothing stays the same and that things in all areas of life are cyclical. It’s also accurate to acknowledge that managing this virus may take us some real adjusting going forward. For some, there will be significant changes of the old into the new. But for us all, there will be some necessary adapting as we move forward. In moving ahead however, one thing remains accurate and unchanged, and that is that you and I will always be the ones to determine how we bring meaning into our daily lives.
The importance isn’t always measured on a scale of grandiose but often more in the small, subtle in-betweens. Take notice as you move about your day, to what it is that brings in value, or makes your life worth the while for you? The meaning comes in different for each of us yet common on a certain level. The work we do for pay or not contributes to the whole of life. Caring for your home or tending to a garden has value as you apply pride in what you’re doing. Connecting via a phone call, text, or FaceTime with a friend or loved one that may be socially isolated brings joy to them, thus brings happiness to you. Feeding that creative artistic side can be loads of fun as you discover a long lost talent. Quiet time with yourself to become reacquainted with that person you use to know can be exciting and revealing. Simply sitting on your front stoop and taking in the nature that’s screaming for you to be out can be refreshing.
How are you bringing meaning into each day of your life? What brings value to your day? Feel into the heart and the sense of simply being healthy and alive and what a treasure that is.
So, as I head off to my second cup of coffee this morning which by the way brings me loads of “joy” “value” I will share this text which brought clarity and meaning for me, so thank you if you’re reading, “gratitude” more “value,” and some fresh air with an anticipated walk outside today “huge value” and with that, I will be sending off to each of you and onto all of humanity loads of “love” so much “value.”
What is the meaning of life? For each of us, the answer is uniquely held within the question. The meaning is very simply the opportunity each day to bring into our lives value on some level.
Connect with your meaning,
XO Donna
