Master Mind
Master Mind
By, Donna Daacke
What is mindfulness? We hear the word often, and when we do, it can be accompanied by the word meditation. While the many styles of meditation are used as a tool in the formal practice of mindfulness, the informal practice of mindfulness is life itself. When we can step into being, then the real meditation becomes all of life. Being mindful is cultivating a relationship with the way things are at any given moment. Living life like it matters with an acceptance of the thoughts without judgment and things being just as they are.
Mindfulness is not just one more feel-good thing we do; it is an intimate way of being. As we learn to turn down the volume on the mind noise not by silencing the thoughts but through allowing the nonjudgemental awareness of those thoughts, we turn everything we do in life into a meditation. Our chores, eating, relating, managing worry, pain, and illness, every single thing becomes a chance to be in the informal practice of allowing yourself to drop into life as it’s happening like it matters.
The practice of mindfulness is just that it is something we practice. It’s nurtured throughout the day every day. The mind will always think it’s the master, but by cultivating mindfulness, there’s no need to change that, we simply invite in the attention to intention.

Here’s one straightforward tool for a formal practice of mindfulness.
As you move about your day, allow yourself to drop into any given moment by bringing awareness to your breathing—we all breathe without instructing our body’s to do so. Come out of doing and step into being by utilizing your senses, becoming aware of your breath, keep your attention on it as it moves in and out of your body. Feel it pass through your nostrils, moving into the throat and down into the chest and further still into your belly and following it out as you exhale.
