Sacred Utterance - Creating Your Personal Mantra
Sacred Utterance
Some years ago I dug deep-going inward to explore what my mantra was. A personal mantra is a combination of words that have valuable personal meaning and are meant to be a focus that keeps us inspired and motivated. They are words often repeated whether in our mind, during a meditation, sometimes audibly, a personally designed affirmation of sort. My life mantra was reduced to three simple words. These words are sacred to me, their meaning for me is personal, not necessarily secretive, but have the value of inspiration and deep conviction for me. Interestedly, even though it’s been nearly 5 years now, my original three-word mantra has not changed from what I initially discovered it to be. They are still the same three words that for me ring true and I continuously return to them time and time again.
Mantras can be used to guide us in many ways. They can be words, a sentence or phrase meant to help us maintain a focus that gets us through something temporarily or that assists us in working toward a personal goal. My three guiding words are more of a personal intention mantra that was created to fully realize who and what I intend to be in this world. Whether temporary utterance or long-lasting the words should be sacred to you and serve to lift, guide, and inspire and used as a tool for maintaining one's focus.
With the current climate in mind, I would encourage you to consider connecting with your heart to come up with a mantra that can assist you through the challenges we are all facing at this time. To simplify, it can be one word, or a series of words if you are inspired by such. After you come up with your mantra, post it visibly so you are reminded regularly of it. Start and end your day saying it audibly and many times in between to shift and lift (shift and lift, sounds like a new dance lol).
Some ideas for getting started
Create a list of 10 words that best describe what you are feeling (not thinking) as they apply to the current environment.
Remembering now, the purpose is to dig in and find the focus that inspires. Go through your list of words and reduce it down to 3 that most offer support and inspire.
If your initial words are positive great you're getting there. If not and you’re struggling to identify them write down the opposite meaning of the three words chosen to generate the words that uplift and inspire. Example: worry vs trust, sadness vs joy, hold vs release
Now, ask yourself how do I intend to be throughout this challenging time? Do I want to feel scared, sad, in scarcity or do I want to feel peaceful, connected, safe and confident, etc? Realize your intention. Connect with the feelings of who you intend to be. What feels good, what feels right and what does not.
Reviewing, take a moment and consider how numbers 3 & 4 come together in realizing/feeling your purpose today. Ask yourself, do these words inspire and uplift me and offer support and focus for being who I intend to be while getting through this challenging time?
Lastly, write your words, sentence or phrase down on paper. If you choose to you can decorate them, putting them on pretty stationery, needlepoint or calligraphy, use your imagination, resources and supplies to generate them in some fun, creative fashion.
"I confidently release all worry and remain
open to trust and joy".
My mantra used these three key words release, trust, and joy, paired with my intention of remaining open to the bigger picture as we work through this virus and choosing to live in the vibration of joy.
Utter away, sweet peeps!
